Nazli Yenal: Türkiye plans high-level methane dialogue based on COP29 initiatives

Azerbaijan's initiatives put forward at COP29 could serve as a basis for further cooperation on resource efficiency, the circular economy and methane emissions reduction, Nazli Yenal, a senior expert at Türkiye"s Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, said at the 4th Climate Week (CW4) in Baku, according to Report.

"I would particularly like to highlight Azerbaijan's initiatives under COP29, as well as the Resource Efficiency and Circularity Agenda and the Regional Initiative for a Sustainable and Circular Economy in the ecoregion. They have created an important platform for advancing regional cooperation in these areas," she said.

According to Yenal, the COP29 Declaration on Reducing Methane Emissions from Organic Waste also provides a basis for cooperation on waste management, the circular economy and methane emissions reduction, in line with Türkiye's climate priorities.

"These initiatives are not endpoints, but they provide a solid foundation for our future work-from COP29 to COP31, from Baku to Antalya, and from COP31 into the years ahead," she said.

Yenal said Türkiye also plans to launch a high-level dialogue on reducing methane emissions in the waste sector.

"Our goal is not simply to hold another high-level meeting. We would like to establish a mechanism for monitoring, follow-up and cooperation that will continue its work beyond COP31," she said.
