Mukhtar Babayev: Azerbaijan pays special attention to sustainable urban development

As host of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), Azerbaijan places particular emphasis on sustainable urban development, environmental responsibility, and climate resilience, Mukhtar Babayev, the Presidential Envoy for Climate Affairs, said in his video address to participants at WUF13, Report informs.

According to him, the development of Azerbaijan's first national sustainable development standard is a timely and practical response to one of the key challenges of our time, translating global sustainability ambitions into concrete actions at the national and local levels.

"The development of the first national standard is an important milestone. It reflects a growing understanding that sustainable development should not be limited to strategies and declarations. It must be integrated into planning processes, project management, and everyday institutional practices. As the host country of WUF13, Azerbaijan places particular emphasis on sustainable urban development, environmental responsibility, and climate resilience. The organization of the forum itself also takes into account the principles of sustainable development, including more environmentally friendly approaches to event delivery and the application of international sustainability standards," Babayev said.
