Each year, climate change forces an estimated 40–50 million people to leave their homes, said María Fernanda Espinosa, President of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, at the second day of Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025), Report informs.
She stressed that climate action must be rooted at the local level: "Any response must be collective. We often forget that our decisions directly impact people's lives-and they also contribute to poverty."
Espinosa underlined that no climate action can succeed without adequate resources: "When we talk about energy, we must remember that 750 million people still lack access to it. At the heart of these discussions, Azerbaijan and other countries are working toward a transition to renewable energy."
She added that COP30 will serve as a platform for global solidarity: "We must recognize the risks and act accordingly. The focus should be on prevention and preparedness."
