Azerbaijani deputy minister: Climate sensitivity index rising

Azerbaijan is facing climate risks, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Taghiyeva said during a panel session at Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.

The deputy minister noted that climate‑related cases are being observed in Azerbaijan: "Based on the assessment of Azerbaijan's climate sensitivity index, the number and intensity of extreme weather‑climate events have significantly increased over the past 10 years, making the integration of climate issues into sectoral development plans necessary."

Taghiyeva further stated that severe heatwaves in Europe, destructive floods in Nepal, and climate processes in many countries show that this issue requires sensitive attention.

She added that official studies indicate that early warning systems can reduce climate damages by 30%: "The world is currently undergoing serious transformations and moving toward new opportunities under the influence of artificial intelligence. The importance of this matter is being confirmed across all global platforms."
