Azerbaijan, together with other Caspian littoral states, is establishing specialized working groups aimed at addressing the problem of declining water levels in the Caspian Sea, Aghakarim Samadzada said during the annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group in Baku.
According to Report, he noted that the declining level of the Caspian Sea poses a serious environmental and economic threat to the entire region and requires a coordinated cross-border approach.
The deputy minister emphasized that the issue is of critical importance to Azerbaijan, as the Caspian Sea is an integral part of the country's national identity, ecosystem, and economic structure. Given the regional nature of the challenge, Baku is actively coordinating its efforts with neighboring Caspian states.
"To strengthen scientific cooperation, exchange up-to-date information, conduct continuous monitoring, and develop joint adaptation measures, Azerbaijan has already established specialized working groups with Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Russia," Samadzada said.
He also noted that Azerbaijan is currently a party to more than 20 international environmental conventions and protocols.
"This demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the global environmental and climate agenda," the deputy minister added.
