Silkworm cocoons harvested in Khojaly for the first time in 34 years

For the first time in 34 years, silkworm cocoons have been harvested in the Khojaly district, marking another step in restoring agricultural production in the liberated territories.

According to Report, citing the Service for Restoration, Construction and Management in Khankandi city, Aghdara, and Khojaly districts, in the past two years a super-intensive mulberry orchard covering an area of 163 hectares has been established in the village of Dashbulag.

On each hectare, 10,000 saplings were planted, enabling high yields.

According to Imran Jumshudov, advisor to the director of the Service, the established orchard has made it possible to revive sericulture in the region. In the first stage, 700 kilograms of cocoons were collected and handed over to Azeripek LLC.

Jumshudov emphasized that the agricultural projects being implemented in Khojaly are aimed not only at increasing production volumes but also at ensuring employment for residents returning to their native lands under the Great Return program.

He said that new jobs have already been created for local residents in the super-intensive mulberry orchards and sericulture farm established in Dashbulag village.

"In the future, it is planned to expand the sericulture farm, which will allow even more residents to be employed," he added.
