Children under the age of 16 in Azerbaijan will be prohibited from creating personal accounts on social media platforms with age restrictions, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Hasanov said during a public discussion on draft amendments to the Code of Administrative Offences, as well as the laws "On Information, Informatization and Information Protection" and "On Protection of Children from Harmful Information."
Report quotes him as saying a model of controlled use will be applied for users aged 16 to 18.
"Creating an account in this age group will be possible only with the consent of legal guardians. Platforms will be required to provide a parental control panel. This responsibility will be imposed on them," he said.
Hasanov also noted that, according to a recent survey conducted by the Center for Social Research, 43% of parents in the country are unable to control children's use of social media.
