Azerbaijani citizen wounded in Lachin as result of Armenia’s attacks testifies in court

At a hearing at the Baku Military Court on August 22, victim Mukhtar Hashimov testified that in the course of the occupation of Jijimli village in the Lachin district, Armenian forces desecrated cemeteries, destroying tombstones and looting gold teeth from corpses, Report informs.

Hashimov recounted that he was forced to flee his home on May 18, 1992, after Armenian armed forces attacked the village:

“Back in 1989, they killed a shepherd from our village, Mehdi Mammadov, while he was grazing cattle. In 1992, heavy shelling with advanced weaponry was carried out against our village. During one of those attacks, both my infant daughter and I sustained leg injuries,” he said.

He further testified that cemeteries were desecrated and cultural and religious sites vandalized. “The tombstones in the cemetery were destroyed, and the gold teeth of our ancestors were looted. Our historical and religious monuments were plundered,” Hashimov stated.

The trial is examining the cases of Armenian citizens accused of committing crimes against peace and humanity, including war crimes, terrorism, the planning and waging of aggressive war, genocide, violations of international humanitarian law, the illegal seizure and retention of power, and financing terrorism, all linked to Armenia’s military aggression.
