The remains believed to belong to 16 people were discovered in Karabakh three days ago, Akif Guliyev, the head of the Forensic Archaeology Department at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of Azerbaijan's National Academy of Sciences, said during a panel held as part of the 4th International Conference of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons.
Report quotes him as saying nearly 1,000 human remains have been discovered to date during research conducted in the liberated territories.
"Work is currently underway to identify them," Guliyev said.
He noted that researchers have encountered both mass graves and individual human remains during their investigations.
"In fact, we can say that we are discovering human remains piece by piece," Guliyev added.
