Muslim communities, minorities discussed at PUIC session in Baku

The first day of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) has ended in Baku.

Report informs that the 5th meeting of the Committee on Muslim Communities and Minorities was held as part of the session.

Addressing the event, Abdürrahim Dusak, a member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, said that since its establishment, the committee has aimed to bring the voice of Muslim communities to international platforms, make the rights violations they face more visible, and create an environment for solution-oriented parliamentary diplomacy.

He presented the report of the Committee on Muslim Communities and Minorities. Dusak noted that the report was prepared to study on the ground the situation of Muslim communities and minorities living in countries that are not members of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, identify the problems they face, record examples of good practice, and strengthen opportunities for international solidarity.

The meeting, attended by parliamentary delegations of the union's member states, discussed issues related to the protection of the rights of Muslim communities, the security of religious and ethnic minorities, social integration and the formation of inclusive societies.

The committee also exchanged views on the protection of religious and cultural heritage in occupied territories and cases of discrimination against Muslim communities.

In addition, the committee discussed strengthening multiculturalism, interfaith dialogue and mutual understanding in the OIC region and other areas, increasing the participation of young people and women in public life, and promoting social stability and coexistence.
