MP: Gender-related pay gap narrows, but construction and finance sectors lag

In Azerbaijan, the gender-related pay gap has narrowed, yet disparities remain in construction and finance sectors, said Ali Masimli, Member of Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, Report informs.

Speaking during today's plenary session on the report of the executive authority overseeing gender equality for 2025, Masimli noted that while in previous years women's wages were about 54% of men's, by 2025 this figure has risen to 67%:

"This is a positive trend. However, in some sectors the gap persists. For example, in construction, women's wages equal 52% of men's, and in finance, 56%. These figures remain below international practice."

In response, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova clarified that such wage differences are observed in the private sector, not the state sector:

"When the Milli Majlis adopted legislative changes on this matter, questions arose. Therefore, it must be emphasized that wage disparities between men and women do not apply to the public sector."
