Large-scale reconstruction and restoration continue in conflict-affected and liberated territories of Azerbaijan, said Ramil Jahangirov, Head of the Project Management Department for Liberated Territories at the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan, during a dialogue session held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
He stated that during the occupation, these territories suffered widespread destruction and nearly 30 years of decline:
"People forced to leave their native lands lived as internally displaced persons for many years. Despite state support, they preserved their attachment to their homeland and expressed their desire to return after the war. Following victory, the government launched a large-scale reconstruction process, not only for several cities but for hundreds of villages and settlements."
Jahangirov emphasized that the process is coordinated through a central headquarters, involving ministries, state agencies, and relevant institutions: "Clearing mines and unexploded ordnance is one of the main priorities. Reconstruction is carried out based on modern urban planning principles, with comprehensive development documents prepared to ensure long-term sustainable growth."
