Hajiyev: Zangezur corridor to become key global transport link

The Zangazur corridor will not only restore direct land connection between Azerbaijan's mainland and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, but also become a key strategic link connecting the East–West and North–South international transport corridors, Vahid Hajiyev, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts, said during an event held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

Hajiyev highlighted that large-scale work began after the liberation of Azerbaijani territories: "The construction phase of the highway section of the corridor is nearing completion. At the same time, the railway line is also close to being finalized. In addition, the bridge over the Araz River connecting Azerbaijan and Iran is almost completed. Thus, this project is becoming a vital element of regional transport and logistics integration."

The official noted that the implementation of the Zangazur Corridor will enable the formation of a circular railway network in the region and increase Azerbaijan's annual cargo capacity by about 50 million tons

"Moreover, Zangilan International Airport is already operational, improving the flexibility and connectivity of cargo transportation as well as accessibility for investors and businesses. Even before the corridor is fully completed, we are witnessing strong interest from logistics and industrial companies. We believe investors understand the strategic importance of this route and the economic opportunities it will create," the Special Representative stated.
