Urbanization creates challenges related to population density, transport, ecology, social issues, and infrastructure, said Idris Isayev, Deputy Minister of Science and Education, Report informs.
Isayev shares this insight at the international conference under the theme Formation of Human Capital for Sustainable and Resilient Urban Development, held within Baku Urban Week and jointly organized by Baku State University (BSU) and the Committee.
He noted that global processes, rapid urbanization, and the influx of people into cities, while contributing to the development of individual urban areas, have also generated a number of problems:
"People face these problems every day. Urbanization brings issues of population density, transport, ecology, social and infrastructure challenges. Naturally, in such conditions, the sustainable development of our cities is not only an urban planning matter but also a social, economic, ecological, and humanitarian issue. The main goal of measures taken to address these problems is to ensure sustainable urban development. Alongside economic growth, people's well‑being must be improved, ecological balance preserved, and resources used efficiently."
Isayev stressed that the human factor lies at the core of all processes: "The main criterion here is the creation of a comfortable, safe, inclusive, and high‑quality living environment for people."
