Given the limited financial resources, Azerbaijan should focus on low-cost but high-impact solutions, Aghakarim Samadzada, First Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, said during the session held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.
Samadzada pointed out that such measures include green public spaces, efficient water use, improved building insulation, and community-based urban planning: "These actions can simultaneously support climate adaptation, reduce emissions, and strengthen social resilience. A climate-resilient, low-carbon, and inclusive city is one where people live safely, comfortably, and with equal opportunities. Such a city must have strong and resilient infrastructure, accessible and energy-efficient housing, public transport for all, green public spaces, and services capable of withstanding climate risks."
The official added that achieving this requires strong laws and clear policies: "Different government agencies, the private sector, and other partners must work together in a coordinated way. It is important to avoid fragmented and disconnected measures. In Azerbaijan, these issues are coordinated at a high level through the State Climate Commission under the Cabinet of Ministers."
