Over 10,000 Azerbaijanis in Türkiye obtain legal documents

More than 10,000 Azerbaijanis living in Türkiye have been provided with legal documents, Chairman of Azerbaijan's State Committee on Work with Diaspora Fuad Muradov said.

He told Report on the sidelines of the First Muslim Diaspora Forum of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states in Ankara that a special commission had been established in 2018 for Azerbaijanis living in Türkiye without proper documentation.

"At the initiative of the State Committee, work has been carried out to provide them with documents. More than 10,000 Azerbaijanis have already received legal documents, and this process is continuing on a regular basis," Muradov said.

He noted that Türkiye is also home to many prominent Azerbaijani intellectuals, artists and cultural figures. According to Muradov, Türkiye ranks first among other countries in terms of both the number of Azerbaijani associations and the number of Azerbaijanis living abroad in the region.

Muradov also said that, under instructions from President Ilham Aliyev and a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers, Azerbaijan provides humanitarian assistance every year to earthquake-affected regions of Türkiye.

"Associations operating in both Azerbaijan and Türkiye also play a role in these humanitarian initiatives," he said.

The committee chairman added that a number of major projects have been implemented in Türkiye, including during visits to Iğdır and Kars, while an Azerbaijan House has also opened in Izmir.

"Our activities cover all regions of Türkiye," he said.

Muradov added that a meeting with the Azerbaijani community in Ankara scheduled for tomorrow would also be important in this regard.

"We regularly hold such initiatives and meetings, and we will continue to do so. Türkiye is a friendly and brotherly country for us, and this cooperation is also reflected in joint activities between the Azerbaijani and Turkish diasporas," he said.
