Azerbaijan signs diaspora agreements with all OTS member states

Azerbaijan's State Committee on Work with Diaspora has signed bilateral agreements with all member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), Committee Chairman Fuad Muradov said.

He made the remarks to Report's Türkiye bureau on the sidelines of the First Muslim Diaspora Forum of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states in Ankara.

Muradov noted that, in addition to Turkic states, the committee has also signed memorandums with countries such as Mexico and Romania.

"We are also discussing prospects for cooperation with representatives of those countries. President Ilham Aliyev has instructed us to study the best practices, apply them and ultimately ensure that all of this benefits our compatriots," he said.

Muradov also highlighted the importance of his meeting with a representative of the Pakistani government, noting the close ties with Pakistan alongside Türkiye.

"We have very similar programs with Pakistan. We invited our Pakistani counterpart to Azerbaijan, and they invited us to Pakistan. I believe joint activities are inevitable in terms of future prospects. First of all, this means an exchange of experience," he said.

Muradov added that diaspora bodies in countries cooperating with Azerbaijan could also support issues important to Azerbaijan in states where the Azerbaijani community is relatively small.

"There are also projects that require international experience for their implementation. For us, the knowledge and experience countries have in the diaspora field are more important than a geographical approach," he said.
