A personal exhibition of Azerbaijani artist Sakit Mammadov is planned for November in Nukus, Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan, President of Uzbekistan's Academy of Arts, People's Artist Akmal Nur said in an interview with Report.
"In the near future, together with the Azerbaijani Cultural Center, we are planning to organize a personal exhibition of Sakit Mammadov in November. He is also our honorary academician. The exhibition will be held in Nukus, Karakalpakstan, jointly with the Azerbaijani Cultural Center," he said.
According to Akmal Nur, Sakit Mammadov also intends to donate one of his works to a museum in Nukus.
"He is a highly respected and renowned artist. He is very well-loved in Uzbekistan, and not only in Uzbekistan but also in many other countries. If he has expressed a desire to donate one of his works to the museum in Nukus, it is, of course, an honor for us to receive such a gift from him. We have already begun preparations. Major renovation work is currently underway at the gallery where the personal exhibition will be held," he noted.
The head of the Academy also spoke about the long-standing cooperation between artists from the two countries.
"Many of our artists have already visited Azerbaijan and the districts where the war took place. They created many paintings dedicated specifically to these themes. Some artists are still working on these subjects in Tashkent. In general, our cultural relations have been developing for a long time. We are friends and we work together," Akmal Nur said.
He recalled that Uzbekistan had previously hosted projects such as "Azerbaijan Through the Eyes of Uzbekistan's Younger Generation," as well as exhibitions by Azerbaijani artists.
"I think our joint work will continue. Especially now, when our relations, not only political but also cultural, will develop further, the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan will also make its own contribution along this path," he emphasized.
Akmal Nur also expressed a desire to hold his personal exhibition in Baku again. His previous solo exhibition in the Azerbaijani capital took place in 2012.
"My dream, of course, is to hold my personal exhibition in Baku again, because Baku has wonderful museums, wonderful art historians, and wonderful managers. But I would like out audience to see as many Azerbaijani artists as possible," he said.
