Nizami Ganjavi bust unveiled in Marneuli after restoration

A restored bust of the great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi was unveiled in Marneuli, Georgia, a city with a large ethnic Azerbaijani population.

According to Report's Georgian bureau, the restoration work was carried out with the support of the Azerbaijani Embassy and at the initiative of the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Georgia.

The ceremony was attended by Azerbaijan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia Faig Guliyev, Chairman of the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Georgia Huseyn Yusubov, Azerbaijani Embassy Education Adviser Fuad Chiragov, as well as representatives of the public, students and local residents.

It was noted that the bust had been damaged some time ago and required restoration. Following the work, the monument was restored to its original appearance.

Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Georgia Faig Guliyev expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the restoration, as well as to the city authorities. He emphasized the importance of supporting efforts to preserve the history, culture and art of the Azerbaijani people in Georgia.

The bust of Nizami Ganjavi was installed in Marneuli in 2012. Fourteen years later, it underwent restoration. The work was carried out by artist and sculptor Gasham Suleymanov.

The event continued at the Azerbaijan House in Marneuli. Participants discussed Nizami Ganjavi's literary legacy and the role of his work in developing cultural and literary ties between the Azerbaijani and Georgian peoples.
