Azerbaijani delegation visits Turkmen National Carpet Museum

The Azerbaijani delegation and media representatives familiarized themselves with the Turkmen National Carpet Museum.

Report's correspondent dispatched to Turkmenistan informs that museum expert Gyzylgul Amanova gave detailed information to Deputy Minister of Culture Murad Huseynov, ministerial adviser Orkhan Fikratoghlu and other guests.

She noted that the Turkmen national carpet included in the Guinness Book of Records is also kept at the National Carpet Museum. The carpet weighs 1,200 kg.

"The carpet was woven in 2001 and entered the Guinness Book of Records in 2003. The carpet covers 301 square meters," she emphasized.

The expert also provided information about the museum's activities. She noted that the museum was established in Ashgabat by a decree of Turkmenistan's President Saparmurat Niyazov dated March 20, 1993, to revive, preserve and creatively develop Turkmenistan's carpet-weaving traditions.

"More than 2,000 exhibits are preserved in the museum. The museum"s collection is constantly expanding, and its employees search for and collect old carpets," she said.
