Azerbaijani Culture Days feature literary conference in Arkadag

A scientific conference dedicated to the works of prominent Azerbaijani literary figure Seyid Azim Shirvani and well-known Turkmen poet Dowletmammet Azady was held in the city of Arkadag on June 6 as part of Azerbaijani Culture Days in Turkmenistan.

Report's correspondent dispatched to Turkmenistan informs that before the conference, held at the Dowletmammet Azady City Library, participants familiarized themselves with the library.

The conference was moderated by Ilgar Fahmi, Secretary of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union, Honored Cultural Worker, writer and playwright.

Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Culture Murad Huseynov, Milli Majlis member Hikmat Babaoglu, a member of the Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan interparliamentary friendship group, Karim Tahirov, Director of the Azerbaijan National Library, professor, Honored Cultural Worker and Chair of the Union of National Libraries of the Turkic World, as well as Turkmen literary scholars, spoke about the life and creative path of both literary figures.

It was noted that Dowletmammet Azady, who contributed to the development of 18th-century classical Turkmen literature and enriched it with new content and ideas, gained fame as a herald of humanist ideas during his nearly 40 years of creative activity.

It was stated that Seyid Azim Shirvani, along with being a powerful representative of the classical ghazal school, made important contributions to the development of Enlightenment thought in Azerbaijan in the 19th century.

After the speeches, Azerbaijani and Turkmen reciters performed poems by both poets.
