Azerbaijan could restore historical religious monuments in Armenia, MP says

Azerbaijan could help restore historical and religious monuments located in Armenia if the necessary opportunity is provided, MP Fazil Mustafa said at a conference titled "Preservation of historical and religious monuments: challenges and prospects," jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and the State Committee for Affairs with Religious Associations, Report informs.

The MP said the issue of preserving historical and religious monuments had gained greater relevance after President Ilham Aliyev declared 2026 the Year of Architecture and Urban Planning.

"As we are a society of believers, religious and historical monuments are numerous across the country. The main direction in preserving these monuments is restoring historical memory, while the second is giving them a tourism dimension," Mustafa said.

He emphasized that the Azerbaijani state does not distinguish between religious affiliations when it comes to historical and religious monuments.

"It does not matter to the Azerbaijani state which religion a historical and religious monument belongs to. We restore churches, synagogues and mosques using the same approach. We do not approach historical religious monuments through the prism of location. We also contribute to the restoration of historical religious monuments in other countries," he said.
