Archaeology Magazine publishes article on stone sphere found in Jalilabad

The prestigious scientific journal Archaeology Magazine of the Archaeological Institute of America has published an article about a stone sphere discovered in Azerbaijan's Jalilabad district.

Vafa Mahmudova, chief research fellow at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Historical Sciences and associate professor, told Report's Mugan bureau that, according to the article, the stone sphere does not resemble any object found to date in the South Caucasus and suggests that it may have served a ritual purpose.

The artifact was discovered in July during archaeological excavations at the Pashatapa archaeological site led by Vafa Mahmudova.

Earlier, an article about the discovery was published by Heritage Daily, a popular science publication in the United Kingdom.

Both articles were published citing Report Information Agency.
