Nigar Arpadarai: Caspian Sea level drop poses major environmental threat

The ongoing drought and declining water levels in the Caspian Sea represent a serious environmental threat, said Nigar Arpadarai, COP29 High-Level Climate Champion, at Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025), Report informs.

According to Arpadarai, addressing this crisis requires strong political will and collective action:

"Humanity can overcome this ecological disaster only through joint cooperation. I believe political steps must be taken. These actions will not only help mitigate climate change but also create thousands of new jobs."

She also highlighted the growing uncertainty faced by farmers due to climate change:

"Farmers no longer trust the seasons. Abnormal weather conditions are severely damaging crops, making it increasingly difficult for them to decide when to plant or harvest."

Arpadarai's remarks underscored the urgent need for both national and regional efforts to address the impacts of climate change on ecosystems and livelihoods.
