Deputy Minister: Azerbaijan has new strengthened strategy towards African countries

Azerbaijan has adopted a new, strengthened foreign policy strategy focused on Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister and COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev said during Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025), Report informs.

Rafiyev noted that more than ten government missions to African countries have taken place this year alone:

"There have also been high-level visits to Azerbaijan by leaders and government officials from several African nations. The main goal is to strengthen political and economic ties between Azerbaijan and African countries."

He added that Azerbaijan plans to expand its diplomatic presence across the continent:

"This will help us gain greater support from African countries in major international platforms. At the same time, we share common values with many of these nations."

The move signals Azerbaijan's growing interest in global partnerships beyond its immediate region, particularly in the Global South.
