Italian company plans to produce plasma-derived medicines in Azerbaijan

An Italian pharmaceutical company, Kedrion, plans to establish a production and research center in Azerbaijan, Maurizio Tamagnini, founder and CEO of Italian investment company FSI, said at the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku.

Report quotes him as saying the aim is to locate the company's operations in one of the free economic zones offered by Azerbaijan.

"Kedrion specializes in plasma-derived products and primarily manufactures medicines derived from human blood. Human blood cannot be transported over long distances, and each region has an interest in processing its own blood plasma to produce medicines used to treat various diseases.

"Therefore, if, with the necessary support from the relevant institutions, we can bring a production and research center to Azerbaijan capable of serving the entire region, research and manufacturing processes will no longer have to be carried out abroad. This would create not only trade centers here, but also genuine production and research capabilities," he said.
