Elnur Baghirov: Competition policy should support regional integration

Competition policy should become one of the key mechanisms supporting regional economic integration.

According to a Report correspondent in Azerbaijan's Shusha, Elnur Baghirov, chairman of the Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control State Agency, made the remark at the 3rd Meeting of the Heads of Competition Authorities of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and the Competition Forum.

According to the agency's head, competition policy should act as a development tool supporting integration and, at the same time, as a driving force for this process.

"If integration expands markets, competition policy should ensure their effective functioning. Deepening economic ties between the Turkic states increases the importance of competition policy," noted Elnur Baghirov.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening regular cooperation between the competition authorities of the OTS countries.
