Elnur Aliyev: Middle Corridor promotes regional co-op, trade, investment

The Middle Corridor connecting Asia and Europe promotes regional cooperation, trade and investment, Azerbaijan's First Deputy Minister of Economy Elnur Aliyev said at the 6th General Assembly of the Public Association "Turkish-Azerbaijani Businessmen and Industrialists" (TUIB), held in Baku, according to Report.

Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan is interested in expanding the transit potential of this transport route: “The Middle Corridor strengthens Azerbaijan's trade and economic ties with regional partners, including Türkiye and Central Asian countries. Azerbaijan attaches great importance to increasing the transit and transport potential of the corridors passing through the country, as well as using the opportunities of the Caspian Sea.”

Elnur Aliyev emphasized that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in the field of transport and logistics is of a strategic nature: “The development of partnership in this area is gratifying. Transport routes passing through the territory of Azerbaijan within the Middle Corridor, as well as the Baku Sea Trade Port, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and other projects, provide the shortest and most efficient routes for the delivery of goods from Azerbaijan to Europe via Türkiye and in the opposite direction.”

He noted that in this context, Azerbaijan, as an active participant in the East-West and North-South transport corridors, has invested its own funds in the implementation of infrastructure projects in the fields of rail, road and air transport.

“At the same time, the Kars-Nakhchivan railway project should be considered as a new branch of the Middle Corridor,” Elnur Aliyev added.
