Azerbaijani customs seized more than 2 tons of drugs in 2025-2026

More than 2 tons of narcotic substances were detected and removed from illegal circulation in Azerbaijan in 2025 and during January-May 2026, Shahin Baghirov, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Colonel-General of the Customs Service, said in an interview with Report News Agency and İctimai TV.

According to him, the seized substances included heavy drugs, synthetic narcotics, as well as relatively lighter drugs. Some of the shipments were being transported in transit through Azerbaijan.

"Criminals use various technological methods to conceal drugs, including hiding them inside equipment or impregnating solid materials with narcotic substances. We are preventing these attempts and will continue to do so," Baghirov stressed.

He also reported that in 2025-2026, customs authorities prevented the illegal import of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages worth more than 5 million manats and seized unregistered pharmaceutical products valued at 5 million manats.

"In addition, in 2025 and during the first five months of 2026, compensation of up to 10 million manats was secured for the state budget to cover damage caused to the state by criminal activities," the head of the State Customs Committee added.
