Azerbaijan's maritime cargo transport surges by nearly 17%

Azerbaijan's maritime cargo transport has seen a growth of nearly 17% in the first five months of this year.

From January to May, 861,409,000 tons of cargo, valued at $1,122,023, were transported via sea routes.

The total value of the transported goods saw a slight decline of 1% compared to the corresponding period in 2023, Report informs citing the State Customs Committee (SCC).

The SCC further revealed that the export volume of goods transported by sea amounted to 29,529 tons, marking a 3.2% decrease from the previous year. The export value also experienced a significant drop of 40.9%, totaling $46,852,000.

On the import front, Azerbaijan received 1,092,493 tons of goods through maritime transport, a decrease of 0.8% compared to the same period last year. The import value surged by 21.4%, reaching $814,557,000.
