A technical and vocational carpet weaving center has opened in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, funded by the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA).
According to Report, citing Afghan media, the center is a key part of the “Development of Traditional Afghan Handicrafts” initiative, financed by AIDA and implemented by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Mission in Kabul in cooperation with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MoLSA).
“The project aims to provide Afghan women with professional carpet weaving training to promote economic empowerment and preserve traditional Afghan crafts,” the media notes.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mohammad Saeed Al-Ayyash, Director General of the OIC Mission in Kabul, Ilham Mammadov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Afghanistan, and Afghan officials.
“This initiative reflects a shared commitment to expanding women's economic opportunities and preserving Afghanistan’s cultural heritage,” Al-Ayyash stated.
Carpet weaving is one of Afghanistan’s most vital industries, providing livelihoods for over one million people across the country, particularly in rural areas.
