American Airlines loses $9 billion in a year of pandemic

American Airlines, the leading US airline, ended last year with a loss of $8.9 billion. However, the carrier made a profit of $1.7 billion from the previous year.
American Airlines' annual failure was $2.2 billion in the fourth quarter of 2020. In the fourth quarter of 2019, the company had a profit of $414 million.
American Airlines earned $17.3 billion last year and $4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2020, a drop of 62.2% and 64.6% respectively from a year earlier.
