MP: Azerbaijan has become reliable platform for cooperation within OTS

Recent events held in Baku once again show that Azerbaijan has become an important and reliable platform for developing cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), Azerbaijani MP Fatma Yıldırım told Report.

She noted that just a few days ago Baku hosted the 7th meeting of the heads of Muslim religious administrations of the OTS member states, while today the capital is hosting the Fifth Meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the member states.

"This is not simply about two different events being held in Baku. This sequence shows that cooperation in the Turkic world is deepening both in the spiritual and humanitarian sphere and in security," Yıldırım said.

She stressed that discussions on security issues are particularly important in the context of today's international relations.

"Terrorism, transnational crime, illicit drug trafficking, religious extremism, hybrid threats and the security of critical infrastructure are no longer issues that can be addressed within the borders of individual states. In this regard, strengthening coordination among Turkic states in the field of security creates new opportunities for cooperation," the MP said.

Yıldırım noted that Azerbaijan's role as host of these events also carries particular significance.

"Baku has strengthened its position in recent years as a venue for international dialogue on various political, humanitarian and security agendas. This role is becoming increasingly evident within the OTS as well," she said.

The MP added that Azerbaijan is acting in the Turkic world not only as an active participant, but also as a reliable partner that contributes to shaping a common agenda and creates conditions for developing dialogue among states.

Yıldırım said the Turkic world currently faces new challenges alongside new opportunities.

"At such a stage, it is important to further strengthen ties in the political, economic, humanitarian and security spheres.

"The events hosted by Baku in recent days once again show that Azerbaijan is playing an important role as a major center in the OTS's developing system of cooperation," she said.
