Zaur Mikayilov: Pressure on water rising in Azerbaijan's northern regions

Climate change and longer drought periods are increasing pressure on water resources in Azerbaijan's northern regions, Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ASWRA) Zaur Mikayilov stated, according to Report's correspondent in Quba.

He made the remark at a consultation for the Absheron–Khizi and Quba–Khachmaz economic regions held within the framework of the State Program for the Development of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Production and Processing in Azerbaijan for 2026–2030.

Mikayilov noted that rising average annual temperatures, uneven rainfall distribution, and prolonged dry periods have made efficient management of water resources a more urgent issue.

"Taking these factors into account, large-scale projects are being implemented to create new water sources, restore existing infrastructure, and modernize irrigation networks. These efforts aim to adapt the agricultural sector to climate change," the chairman emphasized.
