Seymur Safarli: 300 new farms to be created to develop sheep farming

As many as 300 new semi-intensive farms are planned to be established in Azerbaijan to develop sheep farming, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Seymur Safarli said at a meeting on the State Program for the Development of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture for 2026-2030, Report informs.

According to him, the state program envisages an increase in lamb production by at least 9% and sheep production by 10%: "The mountainous and foothill areas of the Guba, Gusar, Khizi, Siyazan, and Shabran districts have favorable potential for the development of sheep farming. In these districts, a gradual transition of traditional sheep farms to a semi-intensive model is considered feasible. Furthermore, the program envisages the creation of 10 wool collection points and one wool processing facility. Support will also be provided for the restoration of 480,000 hectares of pastures and grazing lands, as well as the drilling of 100 subartesian wells to improve the supply of drinking water to animals."
