Revolutionary reforms were carried out in Azerbaijan's agricultural sector in the 2015-2025 period, said Zeynal Naghdaliyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan – Head of the Department for Territorial and Organizational Issues of the Administration of the President, Report's correspondent in Aghdash informs.
He made the remark during a regional conference on the State Program for the Development of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Production and Processing in Azerbaijan for 2026–2030.
Naghdaliyev noted that the process was implemented under the direct leadership and personal supervision of President Ilham Aliyev.
"During this period, state programs were adopted for the development of viticulture, tea-growing, rice cultivation, citrus farming, hazelnut growing, tobacco, sericulture, and cotton. State support for agriculture increased, and as a result, production and export potential in traditional sectors such as cotton, tobacco, viticulture, and winemaking grew significantly. Self-sufficiency levels improved for key products, with full self-sufficiency achieved in fruit, vegetables, and eggs. Positive dynamics were also observed in meat, milk, fish, and potato production. Large-scale projects were implemented to provide irrigation water to farmland, modern irrigation systems expanded, major reservoirs built, and canals reconstructed – a process that continues today," he said.
The official added that major progress was made in supplying agricultural machinery, with the machinery fleet almost completely renewed. "These reforms also required bringing additional land into crop rotation. Based on presidential instructions, 169,100 hectares of land previously unused – either privately owned or leased long-term but excluded from crop rotation – were added back into cultivation," he emphasized.
