Revolutionary reforms have been carried out in Azerbaijan's agricultural sector, Khalid Ahadov, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan for Social and Economic Issues, said at a regional meeting on the Shirvan-Salyan Economic Region, as part of the State Program for the Development of Agricultural, Fishery, and Aquaculture Production and Processing in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026-2030.
Report quotes him as saying that large-scale reforms were carried out between 2015 and 2025 under the leadership and personal supervision of President Ilham Aliyev.
"State programs have been adopted to develop viticulture, tea, rice, citrus, hazelnut, tobacco, sericulture, and cotton. State support in the agricultural sector has been increased. As a result, the production and export potential of traditional industries-cotton, tobacco, viticulture, and winemaking-has significantly increased. Self-sufficiency in a number of products has improved, and complete self-sufficiency in vegetables, fruits, and eggs has been achieved. Positive trends are observed in meat, milk, fish, and potatoes," Ahadov said.
He also noted that large reservoirs have been built for irrigation, canals have been reconstructed, the use of modern irrigation systems has been expanded, and the agricultural machinery fleet has been almost completely updated.
