The unified land fund of Azerbaijan is 8.6 million hectares, of which only 4.8 million hectares (55.2%) are suitable for agriculture, Prime Minister Ali Asadov said at the plenary session of the Milli Majlis today.
According to him, control over the protection of agricultural lands and their use for their purpose has been strengthened:
"Recently, there have been many requests to change the category and designation of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes.
"However, considering the importance of agricultural lands for the country's food security, food supply, and employment of the population, the use of those lands outside of their intended purpose is undesirable and will be kept under special control."
