Some 49.6 million manats have been invested in the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan's Bilasuvar district over the past five years (2021-2025), Faig Gurbatov, head of the district executive authority, said at a regional meeting on the State Program for the Development of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture for 2026-2030, Report informs.
According to him, last year the district produced goods worth 516.9 million manats with agricultural products accounting for 237.1 million manats.
"Agriculture accounts for 45.9% of total production, confirming its leading role in the district's economy," Gurbatov said.
He noted that 96,000 tons of grain were harvested from 31,677 hectares in 2025, with wheat yields reaching 32.3 centners per hectare and barley yields reaching 29.7 centners per year. This year, wheat yields are expected to reach 35 centners and barley yields to 34 centners per year.
He added that water losses in irrigation systems in the region reach 30-40% due to the earthen channel of the South Mugan Canal. He emphasized that improved water supply could significantly increase crop yields.
