More than 169,000 hectares of unused land returned to agricultural use in Azerbaijan

Important steps have been taken in recent years to return unused land to agricultural circulation in Azerbaijan in order to support the development of the agricultural sector, Zeynal Nagdaliyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Territorial and Organizational Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said during a meeting on the 2026–2030 State Program for the Development of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Report quotes him as saying that, in line with instructions from Ilham Aliyev, a total of 169,100 hectares of land that had previously been purchased or leased on a long-term basis but remained unused have been returned to agricultural production.

"As part of agricultural reforms, efforts have been made to improve water supply, introduce modern irrigation systems, and modernize agricultural machinery. A total of 52 agroparks have been established in 32 districts of the country, contributing to the production of competitive goods, reducing import dependence, and expanding employment opportunities in the regions," Nagdaliyev said.
