The opening of the Zangazur Corridor will create new opportunities for exporting agricultural products from the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov said at a meeting in Sharur dedicated to the implementation of the State Program for the Development of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture for 2026–2030.
According to Report's local bureau, the minister explained that the program includes both fundamental measures (direct activities in the agricultural sector) and supporting measures (legislative initiatives, institutional reforms, and digitalization). Special attention is given to livestock development, crop production, and the introduction of modern irrigation systems.
Mammadov noted that one of the program's goals is to raise average yields of irrigated wheat nationwide to 5 tons per hectare, and cotton to 5 tons.
"The main goal of the program is to obtain more and higher-quality products from each hectare with fewer resource costs," the minister said.
He added that the meeting also discussed the contribution of the Zangazur Corridor to Nakhchivan's economic development, which will expand production and processing capacities as well as export markets for local products.
