Deputy Minister: Khachmaz, Shabran included in target wheat districts in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan's Khachmaz and Shabran districts have been included among the 22 target districts identified for the development of wheat production, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Seymur Safarli stated, according to Report's correspondent in Quba.

He made the remark at a consultation for the Absheron–Khizi and Quba–Khachmaz economic regions held within the framework of the State Program for the Development of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Production and Processing in Azerbaijan for 2026–2030.

Safarli explained that the main goals in these districts are to increase productivity in irrigated grain fields, improve water supply, level land using laser technology, introduce modern irrigation systems, and expand the use of high-reproduction seed material.

"Qusar district is among the eight prospective districts identified for wheat production development. Alongside improvements in water supply and melioration infrastructure, new opportunities will emerge for expanding high-yield grain production. Absheron, Khizi, Quba, and Siyazan districts are included among the 31 districts designated for dryland farming. In these areas, productivity will be raised through improved agro-technical care. According to the State Program, average yields are planned to reach 50 centners in target districts and 30 centners in dryland farming districts," Safarli noted.
