Azerbaijan to increase grain silo capacity to 2.05 million tonnes

Azerbaijan plans to increase the country's total grain silo capacity to 2.05 million tonnes under the State Program for the Development of Agricultural, Fisheries and Aquaculture Production and Processing for 2026–2030, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Seymur Safarli said during a regional meeting in Bilasuvar.

According to Report, he said that the main objectives in the grain sector are to increase wheat and barley yields, raise the level of self-sufficiency in food wheat through domestic production, and boost farmers' incomes.

Safarli stressed that alongside increasing grain production, it is also necessary to expand agricultural storage infrastructure.

"The establishment of grain silos, drying, cleaning and sorting facilities in the regions will reduce the need for farmers to sell their harvest at low prices immediately after collection. The State Program envisages increasing the country's total grain silo capacity from 1.9 million tonnes to approximately 2.05 million tonnes, while the capacity of agricultural cold-storage facilities will rise from 400,000 tonnes to around 500,000 tonnes," he said.
