Water resources exceeding 2 billion cubic meters, generated in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, have already been included in Azerbaijan's state water balance, Rafig Aslanov, head of the State Supervision Service for Water Use and Protection, told journalists, Report informs.
According to him, one of the key priorities is the creation of modern irrigation systems to increase the efficiency of agricultural production and bring new cultivated areas into use.
"Numerous projects in the water management sector are being implemented in the liberated territories. Construction, as well as repair and restoration work, has already been completed at a number of facilities, while design and construction work continue at others. To develop intensive agriculture, it is first and foremost necessary to ensure reliable water supply sources," Aslanov said.
He noted that new water sources are being created for this purpose, and main canals are being built using a closed system principle.
"This approach will allow water to be delivered to agricultural lands through pressurized closed pipelines and will ensure the widespread application of modern intensive irrigation technologies," he added.
